National Trails

The national paths are an attempt to connect the Greek mountains with each other. From Rodopi to the Peloponnese and Parnitha, 19 national paths have been designed and partially implemented. These are:

1. The national path O1 connects the path E6 with the E4. It starts from Metsovo and the mountain Peristeri and ends in the village of Gardiki, passing through the villages of Syrrako, Kalarrytes and Matsouki and from the mountain Kakarditsa. It is planned to continue for Elati, Trikala.

2. The national path O2 connects Olympus (E4) with Pelion. It starts from Olympus and passing through the mountains of Kato Olympus, Ossa, Mavrovouni and the villages of Karya, Kallipefki, Rapsani, Potamia, Elafos, Keramidi, Veneto ends at the beach below the village of Pouri in Pelion.

3. The national path O3 connects Ioannina with Gramos (E6). It starts from the north side of Lake Ioannina and after crossing the mountain Mitsikeli, passes through Zagorochoria Kipoi, Vitsa, Monodendri, crosses the gorge of Vikos, climbs to Papigo, crosses the mountain Tymfi, passes through the villages, Smolikas mountain and from the village of Agia Paraskevi passes Sarandaporo and ends at Gramos.

4. The national path O4 connects Chortiatis with Paggaio and Rodopi (E6). It crosses Halkidiki, ancient Amphipolis, Paggaio and ends at the village of Toxotes in Nestos. Only the parts of Paggaio have been marked, from Avli village to Nikisiani and from Amphipolis to the top.

5. The national path O5 connects the path E6 with the E4 at the height of Metsovo – Kalampaka. It has not been fully mapped, nor has its signaling begun.

6. The national path O6 connects the paths O1 and O5. It starts from Metsovo and passing through the villages Haliki, Amaranto, Paleochori, Pyrra ends in Elati, Trikala. It has not been signaled yet.

7. The national path O7 connects the mountains Kakarditsa and Tzoumerka. It starts from Kakarditsa, meets the path O1, crosses Tzoumerka and passing through the villages Voulgareli and Melissourgoi ends in the village Katarraktis. It has not been signaled yet.

8. The national path O8 connects Nymfaio with Deskati. It starts from Nymfaio, crosses the mountains Askio, Vourino and Vounasa and ends in Deskati. It has not been signaled yet.

9. The national path O9 connects Dodoni with Parga. It starts from the ancient theater of Dodoni, passes through Souli and the necromancer of Acheron and ends in Parga. It has not been fully mapped, nor has its signaling begun.

10. The national path O11 connects Karpenisi with Agrinio. It starts from Karpenisi, runs through the valley to the Monastery of Proussos, crosses the mountain Panaitoliko (Arapokefala, Tsina, Panaitolikos, Kyra Vgena) and ends in Agrinio. It has not been signaled yet.

11. The national path O12 connects Karpenisi with Nafpaktos. It starts from Karpenisi and after crossing the mountain Kaliakouda and the mountains of Etoloakarnania it ends in Nafpaktos. It has not been signaled yet.

12. The national path O21 crosses Evia. It starts from Oreos and crossing the mountains Telethrio, Xiro, Kandili, Dirfi, Xerovouni, Olympus (since a branch of the path goes to Kimi) and Ochi ends in Karystos. It has not been signaled yet.

13. The national path O22 connects Parnassos with Parnitha. It starts from Agoriani of Parnassos and passing through the mountains Kirfi, Elikona, Korombili, Kithairona, Pastra ends at Parnitha (Buffy shelter).

14. The national path O31 connects Patras with Ancient Olympia. It starts from Patras and passing through the villages of Petroto, Agia Paraskevi, Kalanistra, Kalanos, Lakkomata, Micha, Ano Vlasia, Agrambela, Divri it ends in Ancient Olympia.

15. The national path O32 connects Vytina with Kardamili. It starts from Vytina and passing through the village of Zygovitsi, Dimitsana, the gorge of Lousios, Karytaina, the villages of Leontari, Georgitsi, Lagada in Taygetos, crosses Taygetos (shelter – ravine of Byros) and ends at the beach of Kyrimda.

16. The national path O33 connects Agios Petros Kynourias with Kavos Malias. It starts from the village of Agios Petros and after crossing the ridge almost of Parnonas, ends at Monemvasia and then at the cape of Kavos Malias.

17. The national path O34 connects Epidaurus with Ancient Olympia. It starts from Ancient Epidaurus and passing through Mycenae, Artemisio, Mantineia, Dimitsana, Lagadia ends in Ancient Olympia. It has not been signaled yet.

18. The national path O35 connects Helmos with Ziria. It starts from Kato Lousous, crosses Helmos (shelter, Psili Korifi, Neraidorahi, Ydata Stygos), passes through the villages of Peristera, Zarouchla, Feneo and Goura, crosses Ziria (shelters A & B) and ends at Ano T.

19. The national path O36 connects Dimitsana with Methoni. It starts from Dimitsana, passes through Karytaina, Andritsai
