1. Panagia – Cave of Agios Ioannis – Cave of Cyclops (from €55)

The hike starts from the village of Panagia and winds uphill towards the mountain. During the hike we will talk about the nature, history, myths and traditions of Heraklion. We will meet goats that graze freely in the mountains, and we will probably see birds of prey. We will then arrive at the Cave of Saint John and the famous Cyclops Cave from Homer’s Odyssey, where there will be a short break before the main part of the tour. We will put on our gear and enter the cave. Following the guide’s advice, with care and respecting space limitations, we will explore its chambers. A labyrinth of geological formations such as stalactites and stalagmites decorate the cave and will dazzle us with their beauty!

2. Panagia – Top of Mount Papas – Prophet Elias (from €45)

  • Duration: 3.5 hours

The path starts from the village of Panagia. The first part is the most difficult because of the steep slopes. Occasionally we will pause to rest and take photos. However, when we reach the top of Mount Papas, we will enjoy the breathtaking, amazing view of the Aegean Sea with the nearby islands! During the hike we will talk about the nature, history, myths and traditions of Heraklion. If we are lucky, we will encounter goats grazing freely in the mountains, as well as rare vultures and birds of prey. On the way back, we will walk past the old chapel of Prophet Ilias and follow the stone path that leads to the village.

3. Panagia – Gremos Merichas – Hellenistic Castle (from €40)

  • Distance: 5.5 km
  • Duration: 3.5 hours

The path starts shortly after the village of Panagia. We will reach the Mericha cliff after a short and easy walk, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. During the hike we will talk about the nature, history, myths and traditions of Heraklion. We will probably encounter goats grazing freely in the mountains, as well as a few eagles. On our return, we will visit the Hellenistic castle and take a short tour of its ruins.

4. Panagia – Western part of the Mericha cliff (from €40)

  • Distance: 5.5 km
  • Duration: 2.5 hours

The path starts from the village of Panagia and winds uphill towards the mountain. During the hike we will talk about the nature, history, myths and traditions of Heraklion. We will encounter goats grazing freely in the mountains and probably see some eagles. When we reach the edge of the Mericha cliff, we will take a break to admire the magnificent sea view and take pictures.
