Distance: 6km – Duration: 3 hours

Starting from Mikro Papigko in Zagorochoria we walk towards the refuge of Astaka at an altitude of 1,950 meters. During our ascent we have a view of the impressive western and northern steep slopes of Astraka but also a large part of Tymfi with beautiful limestone rocks crossing huge alpine meadows. Overnight at the Astraka refuge.

Distance: 10km – Duration: 5 hours

From Astraka refuge, we head to the impressive dragon lake of Tymfi at 2,050m. The dragonlake emerges where we least expect it and leaves us surprised with its blue color. We return to the refuge for a short rest and then descend to Mikro Papigko. We board the cars and head to the Smolikas refuge in Palaioseli, where we arrive after about 2 hours of driving. Overnight at Smolikas refuge at 1,750m

Distance: 8km – Duration: 4 hours

From Smolikas refuge we head through a dense forest to the dragonlake of Smolikas at an altitude of 2,150m where we arrive after a hiking of about 2 hours. The dragonlake is heart-shaped and its bottom turns red, while newts swim in its waters. Then we return to the refuge and head to the village of Grammousta in Grammos to spend the night and prepare for the next day hike to Gkistova lake.

Distance: 12km – Duration: 6 hours

The ascent to Gkistova dragonlake follows a series of cattle trails, aiming for the few landmarks of an undulating and rather indistinct relief.

Gkistova lake is located at an altitude of 2,350 meters, on the northernmost arm of the Grammos ridge and right on the border with Albania. It is the highest dragonlake in Greece.

From the surrounding slopes we have a wide view towards Smolikas also to the Albanian borders. The blue sky and the surrounding mountains are reflected in the lake. Return to the guesthouse in Grammousta for rest and overnight.
