3-Day Hiking Tour in Smolikas mt

Mount Smolikas is the second-highest mountain in Greece, soaring to an elevation of 2,637 meters (8,652 feet) in the Pindus mountain range. Located in the northern part of the country, Smolikas is a prominent peak known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. As part of the Pindus National Park, the mountain offers a haven for biodiversity, featuring various plant and animal species. The region surrounding Smolikas includes traditional villages, providing a blend of outdoor adventure and cultural exploration. Hiking and trekking opportunities abound, with trails leading to the summit that cater to different levels of difficulty. Itinerary

Arrival in Paleoselli and departure for the Smolikas refuge at 1,750m altitude where we will spend the night.

Distance: 14km – Time: 6-7 hours

After having our breakfast at the refuge, we leave for the dragon lake of Smolika, walking through a dense forest of pines and holm oaks, where we arrive after about 2 hours. Then the route continues, now in an alpine landscape, with a steeper slope and the peak can be seen from afar. The duration from the Dragon Lake to Smolikas peak lasts from 1 to 1.5 hours.

At a distance of 40 minutes from the refuge is the village of Iliochori which belongs to Zagorochoria. From there starts a 30-minute trail that reaches the ‘Balda di Striga’ waterfalls. These are three consecutive waterfalls, with the largest reaching 25 meters high, which form natural pools with crystal clear wate
